Job summary

Morson is recruiting for Painter/Blasters/Sprayers at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth with an immediate start. You will deliver anti-corrosion protection to ferrous and nonferrous surfaces, including surface prep, abrasive blast cleaning, and applying protective coatings such as epoxies.

Roles involve painting and blasting of tanks on landing craft and compartments on warships, with duties spanning coating systems, quality checks, and access equipment usage.

Qualifications

  • Experience in coatings, blasting, or spraying.
  • Desirable: nuclear or construction site experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

  • Perform surface preparation (hand, mechanical, blasting) and assist with blast set-up.
  • Apply coatings using brush, roller, or spray; spray setup knowledge is beneficial.
  • Understand coating systems: primers, high-build coatings, one and two-pack systems.
  • Perform quality control checks, including film thickness and environmental readings.
  • Use access equipment such as scaffolding and mobile platforms.

Job description

Morson are recruiting for Painter/Blasters/Sprayers at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth with an immediate start.


You will be involved in delivering anti-corrosion protection to ferrous and nonferrous surfaces. This includes mechanical preparation, abrasive blast cleaning (open and closed loop), and applying a variety of protective coating systems such as one and two-pack epoxies.


Painting and blasting of tanks on landing craft as well as compartments on warships and any other emerging works.


Key Responsibilities


  • Maintain a safe working environment and comply with all legal and procedural regulations.

  • Perform surface preparation (hand, mechanical, blasting) and assist with blast set-up as needed.

  • Apply coatings using brush, roller, or spray - knowledge of spray set-up is beneficial.

  • Understand coating systems: primers, high-build coatings, one and two-pack systems.

  • Perform quality control checks, including film thickness and environmental readings.

  • Use access equipment such as scaffolding and mobile platforms.


Knowledge, Skills & Experience


  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications & Requirements


  • Train The Painter Silver or Gold (or iCATS with Blaster/Sprayer Modules)

  • Experience in coatings, blasting, or spraying


Security Requirements


  • Successful candidates must be eligible to undergo BPSS and SC Clearance to work at the dockyard (Support will be provided through the application process).


Pay Rates & Allowances:

PAYE


Silver TTP - £16.77 Dayshift, £21.80 O/T 1, £26.83 O/T 2


Gold TTP - £17.40 Dayshift, £22.62 O/T 1, £27.84 O/T 2


Blasting -£18.75 Dayshift, £24.38 O/T 1, £30.00 O/T 2


(Lodge Allowance £43.74 per shift applicable for workers travelling over 1 hour)


UMBRELLA


Silver TTP - £21.93 Dayshift, £28.62 O/T 1, £35.30 O/T 2


Gold TTP - £22.76 Dayshift, £29.71 O/T 1, £36.65 O/T 2


Blasting - £24.56 Dayshift, £32.05 O/T 1, £39.52 O/T 2


(Lodge Allowance £56.86 per shift applicable for workers travelling over 1 hour)


Taxable lodge allowance paid for travelling workers: £43.74 (PAYE) or £56.86 (Umbrella) per day


21 days annual leave + statutory bank holidays
38-hour basic week, with overtime available


(Weekend and overtime work may be required based on business needs)
