Job summary

Michael Hall School is seeking an Individual Needs Assistant to support learning in our Lower School. You will work 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 08:00–15:30, with a 30-minute lunch break.

The role is term-time only and fixed-term, rolling with pupil needs and funding. The salary is pro-rata (£18,059) with full-time equivalent £24,849, starting ASAP to support pupils and teachers in delivering the curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Undertake learning support duties and assist the class teacher in meeting pupils' day-to-day needs in Lower School.
• Support curriculum delivery, including preparation of resources.
• Provide welfare support for children within the class.
• Respond to pupils’ needs to enable good progress in learning.
• Supervise pupils during breaks and lunchtimes.
• Participate in meetings with colleagues/parents and liaise with external agencies as part of curriculum enhancement.

Individual Needs Assistant

Contract type: Term Time Only, Fixed Term Contract. This post is offered on a rolling fixed-term contract linked to individual pupil need and associated funding. The appointment will end when the pupil leaves the school or when the funding for the role ceases, whichever occurs first.

Hours:35 hours per week (Mon - Fri 08:00 - 15:30 including 30 minutes unpaid lunch)

Salary: £18,059 Pro-rata (FTE £24,849 per annum)

Purpose of the job:

• To undertake learning support duties and assist the class teacher in meeting the day to day needs of the pupils in our Lower School classes
• To support the class teacher with the delivery of the curriculum, including preparation of resources
• To provide additional support for the welfare of children within the class
• To respond to the pupils’ needs, enabling them to make good progress in their learning
• To supervise pupils during break and lunchtimes

General Duties:

• Participate in relevant meetings with colleagues, parents and be involved in links with external agencies as part of curriculum enhancement, including extra-curricular activities and off-site visits
• Support other members of the curriculum area and students as appropriate
• Review your own professional development and maintain professional standards
• Carry out any other such duties as the post holder may reasonably be required to do

Desirable

• Previous classroom assistant experience in an Upper or Secondary School
• First Aid at Work Certificate
• Knowledge/Qualification in Steiner Waldorf education
