Job summary

WH Smith is seeking an Indirect Tax Manager to lead the Group Tax team across the UK and Europe. The role focuses on indirect tax compliance, advisory work, project management, and liaison with Tax Authorities, reporting into the Group Head of Tax.

The successful candidate will manage two tax accountants, provide VAT guidance across business units, and support finance transformations while staying current with changes in tax legislation.

Qualifications

• Qualified in tax or accounting with 6+ years of experience.
• Proven experience managing UK and European indirect tax matters.
• Good communicator, flexible and able to react to new business developments.
• Line management experience with two tax accountants.

Responsibilities

• Lead indirect tax reporting across the UK and Europe, ensuring reporting and payment deadlines are met.
• Provide commercial VAT advice and support to Finance, Legal and internal teams.
• Manage the indirect tax team and in-country compliance obligations.
• Oversee year-end indirect tax audits for the UK and Europe.
• Support finance transformation by embedding indirect tax requirements in new processes.
