Job summary

Boots Group is seeking an experienced Independent Prescribing Pharmacist to join the Boots Online Doctor team in Nottingham. You will provide expert remote care, undertake online consultations, and prescribe where appropriate from a secure platform.

Responsibilities include reviewing private prescriptions, acting as Responsible Pharmacist during Dispensary periods, and monitoring controlled drug dispensing to ensure regulatory compliance. A start-up mindset and CPD commitment are valued.

Qualifications

• Registration with GPhC and Independent Prescribing qualification are required.
• Experience consulting with patients and making independent decisions.
• Able to make prompt decisions and know when to ask for help.
• Flexible team player with start-up mindset and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Clinically review and authorise private prescriptions, including controlled drug prescriptions where legally appropriate.
• Follow strict prescribing guidelines and use the secure IT platform for all patient interactions.
• Act as the Responsible Pharmacist for a dispensary during designated periods.
• Monitor controlled drug prescribing and ensure safe dispensing for home delivery channels.

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 40 hours a week & every other weekend (both Saturday and Sunday)

Key Responsibilities:

• Undertake online consultations and prescribe when appropriate
• Clinically review and authorise private prescriptions, including controlled drug prescriptions where legally clinically appropriate.
• Follow our strict guidelines for prescribing
• Use our secure IT platform for all patient interactions
• Act as the Responsible Pharmacist for a dispensary during designated operating periods, meeting all statutory obligations under pharmacy legislation
• Monitor controlled drug prescribing and dispensing activity, identifying trends, risks or governance concerns and implementing mitigating actions where required.
• Ensure medicines supplied through home delivery channels are dispensed, packaged and distributed safely, securely and in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Undertake video or telephone consultations when needed
• Attend our training events and take part in clinical meetings
• Maintain your own skills and CPD

What you’ll need to have:

• Registration with GPhC
• Independent Prescribing Qualification
• You will be aware of your own limitations and of relevant national guideline
• You will have experience of consulting with patients and making independent decisions
• You will be able to make decisions promptly and know when to ask for help
• You will have a can‑do attitude and be committed to always improving our services
• You will be a flexible team player who can thrive in our start‑up mentality. We have a lot to learn and iterations are frequent!
• Strong understanding of the legal, ethical professional standards in regards to controlled drugs.
• Knowledge of Responsible Pharmacist regulations and dispensary governance requirements.

It would be great if you also have:

• Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Practice
• Previous remote/online consulting experience
• Previous experience of prescribing controlled drugs
