What You’ll Be Doing

As an Independent Nuclear Assurance Inspector, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of our nuclear operations. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting independent inspections and surveillance of nuclear work on facilities, equipment, and support services, both on‑site and on‑board.
  • Evaluating the business’s capability to progress submarine builds and projects through the Hold Point Control process.
  • Assessing compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Communicating inspection findings to stakeholders at all levels, including external regulators and senior management.
  • Independently evaluating emergency arrangements and providing constructive feedback.
  • Challenging safety and security committees to ensure due process and nuclear safety.
  • Overseeing Independent Peer Review activities related to safety documentation.
  • Developing and maintaining an effective Operational Experience feedback system for nuclear incidents and events.
Your Skills and Experience

We’re looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of nuclear site license conditions and experience on licensed sites or in a similarly regulated industry.
  • Proven experience managing programs within the nuclear industry or an equivalent highly regulated field.
  • Strong ability to engage and influence senior management and external regulators.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Background in Marine Engineering, Nuclear Plant Operations, or experience with Nuclear Submarine Build & Commissioning.
  • Degree or equivalent in a STEM subject.
  • Experience in Audit & Regulation.

About the Independent Nuclear Assurance Team

As part of our Independent Nuclear Assurance team, you will work alongside regulatory inspectors reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager. This team acts as the internal regulator for the Submarines business, providing an evidence-based view of nuclear and radiological safety and security performance.

Your role will allow you to influence change at all levels of the business, enhancing the safety of our submarine delivery programs. With diverse responsibilities, you might find yourself inspecting a facility one day and interviewing a director the next!
