Job description

Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for an Independent Assurance/Site Inspector with a background in a highly regulated sector to be engaged on a permanent basis in Barrow-in-Furness with a hybrid working arrangement. You’ll play a key role in inspecting, assessing, and influencing safety, security, and compliance performance - ensuring activities meet nuclear site licence and authorisation conditions, and that operations are delivered safely and effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent inspections and assessments of nuclear and radiological safety and security.
  • Evaluate readiness to progress major programmes through key hold points.
  • Report findings clearly to senior management, peers, and regulators.
  • Provide challenge and assurance to safety and security committees.
  • Support continuous improvement through operational experience feedback.
About You
  • nuclear site licence or authorisation conditions, or experience in an equivalently regulated industry (e.g. defence, aerospace, energy, or pharmaceuticals).
  • Proven experience managing programmes of work in regulated environments.
  • Confident engaging and influencing senior stakeholders and external regulators.
  • Background in nuclear operations, marine engineering, or assurance advantageous.
  • Degree in a STEM discipline (or equivalent experience).
