A leading sports regulatory body in the United Kingdom seeks experienced Non-Executive Directors to oversee governance and support the transformation of British horseracing into a modern commercial powerhouse. Ideal candidates will have significant industry knowledge, a commitment to ethical standards, and specific expertise in areas such as audit, media rights, and digital transformation. This role is vital in driving the strategic growth of the sport.
The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) is the governing and regulatory body for horseracing in Great Britain. The member bodies of the BHA are the Racecourse Association (RCA), the Racehorse Owners Association (ROA), the Thoroughbred Breeders Association (TBA), and the National Trainers Federation (NTF) representing the Licensed Personnel.
Under the chairmanship of Lord Charles Allen, the BHA has set a renewed and ambitious goal to lead stakeholders and transform British racing into a "modern commercial and cultural powerhouse".
To this end, the BHA is transforming its governance arrangements, including building a fully independent board, to support the BHA's new role in coordinating a commercial industry growth strategy, and utilising world-class business and digital skills to actively grow racing as a sport and as an industry.
In this process, the BHA will appoint multiple Independent Non-Executive Directors. They will oversee the organisation, supporting its growth and transformation. The right candidates will have a deep passion for and knowledge of racing, and relevant industry expertise. All Non-Executive Directors will be expected to bring understanding of the requirements of corporate governance, high ethical standards, and a commitment to the continuing success of racing.
Further, across the Non-Executive Directors to be appointed, the BHA is looking to add a specific set of experiences to the Board:
All of the Non-Executive Directors will be independent. The BHA Board, on the recommendation of the Nominations Committee, will determine whether there are relationships or circumstances which are likely to affect, or could appear to affect, a candidate's judgment.
The search is being conducted on behalf of the BHA by Egon Zehnder, a leading global search firm with a strong track record of board appointments.
