About the Role

As an independent member Audit and Accounts Committee, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the effective development and operation of risk management and corporate governance. You will be one of two independent members on the Audit and Accounts Committee alongside some of the City's Councillors on this important Committee. Each independent member serves a term of 3 years, subject to approval of Council. It may be renewed up to a maximum of 2 terms, for which you will receive a modest annual allowance of 408. The estimated time commitment required to undertake the role will vary, on average it would involve attendance at quarterly meetings (lasting between 2-3 hours) a year and associated reading of the prepared papers. On occasion, there may be an operational need to hold additional meetings. Meetings currently take place in an evening from 6pm at the Civic Centre, Swinton.

  • Knowledge and experience in matters of an audit nature, including risk management and corporate governance
  • Strong strategic awareness and ability to identify emerging external factors that may impact on strategy, implementation of plans, or reputation with key stakeholders
  • Good analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • A high level of integrity, inspiring public confidence
  • Ability to challenge and hold Council officers to account
  • Good digital skills, including the ability to access reports an information electronically and participate in remote meetings (via Microsoft Teams) if required
  • An understanding of confidentiality requirements
  • The ability to work as part of a team and contribute to the work of the Audit and Accounts Committee
  • Political awareness without political affiliations
  • Live or work in the Greater Manchester area
