Job Overview
Income Accountant – responsibilities include high‑level support in the development of income plans, monthly financial reporting, management of debt, private patient income, activity planning and leading the income team. Reporting to the Head of Income & Costing.
Responsibilities
- Support monthly financial reporting, including submitting contractual returns and managing debt.
- Support private patient income and activity planning.
- Manage the income team.
- Negotiate and agree a range of clinical and non‑clinical contracts, liaising with operational managers and commissioners.
- Review complex financial issues and queries, providing advice as required.
- Play a key role in completing statutory NHS accounts and returns on timeline.
- Develop own working style within agreed objectives.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- AAT level 4 or equivalent qualification
- Committed to continued professional development
Desirable criteria
- Studying towards a CCAB or equivalent professional qualification – Finalist level
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Specialist knowledge of current NHS Trust financial regime
- Specialist knowledge of the National Tariff Payment System (PbR)
- Excellent IT skills, particularly with Excel and SBS Ledger Systems
- Working understanding of SLAM systems
- Relevant experience within the NHS
- EƯective track record in working as part of a team, and coordinating the work of others
- Experience of managing staff
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with private patient finance
- Experience across financial disciplines
- Experience of successfully managing change
- Experience in implementing process improvement
