Qualifications

  • Experience in Air, Road, and Sea freight (exports an advantage).
  • Strong understanding of general import and customs requirements.
  • Knowledge of freight forwarding procedures and terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Managing import jobs from booking through to final delivery.
  • Advising clients on required import documentation and procedures.
  • Handling customs clearance, including CDS linked and unlinked declarations.
  • Managing T1 discharges and IPAFFS notifications.
  • Preparing quotations and liaising with clients, agents, and local authorities.
  • Ensuring all costings and billing are completed accurately.
  • Maintaining compliance with customs and regulatory requirements.
  • Taking inbound calls and providing professional client support.

Import Operations Clerk - Gatwick Area (On-site Only)

Salary: £28,000-£35,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Hours: Monday-Friday, 09:00-18:00

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Import Operations Clerk to join a well‑established and expanding freight forwarding company based near Gatwick. This role is ideal for someone eager to develop their logistics career within a professional and supportive team environment.

About the Role

You’ll play a key part in the company’s import operations, managing shipments from start to finish and ensuring all customs and compliance procedures run smoothly. Starting with live animal imports via road, you’ll receive full in‑house training with the opportunity to progress into general freight handling across air, road, and sea.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing import jobs from booking through to final delivery
  • Advising clients on required import documentation and procedures
  • Handling customs clearance, including CDS linked and unlinked declarations
  • Managing T1 discharges and IPAFFS notifications
  • Preparing quotations and liaising with clients, agents, and local authorities
  • Ensuring all costings and billing are completed accurately
  • Maintaining compliance with customs and regulatory requirements
  • Taking inbound calls and providing professional client support
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in Air, Road, and Sea freight (exports an advantage)
  • Strong understanding of general import and customs requirements
  • Experience using Sequoia software for customs processing
  • Familiarity with CDS, T1, and IPAFFS systems
  • Knowledge of freight forwarding procedures and terminology

Role Details
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 09:00-18:00
  • Weekend rota: 1 in 3 (after probation, remote, with additional pay)
  • Annual leave: 20 days + 8 bank holidays
  • Probation: 3 months
  • Equipment: Company laptop provided
  • Background: Must pass a DBS check
  • Training: Comprehensive in‑house training provided
After Probation
  • Option to work 08:00-17:00 Monday-Friday
  • Formal performance review
  • Paid overtime available
  • Company mobile phone (if required)
