Academics is recruiting for a SEN Teaching Assistant role across Holmfirth, supporting children and young people with autism, learning disabilities and complex communication needs, helping them access learning and build confidence and independence. You’ll work with teachers and therapists to tailor activities, use PECS or Makaton where appropriate, and adapt approaches to individual needs.

Qualifications aren’t essential; experience in education, care or residential settings is valued, with

Qualifications

• Experienced supporting children or young people with SEN or disabilities.
• Confident working with complex communication needs or willing to learn.
• Patient, resilient and able to build positive relationships.
• Familiar with alternative communication approaches, or keen to develop these skills.

Responsabilités

• Providing one-to-one and small-group SEN support
• Supporting non-verbal and minimally verbal pupils with complex communication needs
• Using PECS, Makaton, visual aids or AAC devices where appropriate
• Encouraging emotional regulation, positive behaviour and independence
• Adapting activities to individual learning and communication needs
• Supporting physical disabilities and personal care where required
• Working closely with teachers, therapists and wider SEN teams
