Job summary

Primis in the United Kingdom is seeking a Software Engineer to design and develop backend services, APIs, and portal systems that power payment processing platforms. You'll work across a modern stack with Ruby on Rails, focusing on high-availability systems, testing, and collaboration.

Candidates should have 3–5 years of software engineering experience, a CS degree, and experience with RESTful APIs and relational databases.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of software engineering experience.
• Degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Proven production experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
• Strong understanding of OO design principles and MVC architecture.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Proficiency with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Experience writing automated tests (RSpec, Minitest, or similar).
• Self-starter who can work independently and in a team.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Understand merchant and partner needs and translate them into scalable solutions.
• Design, build, and maintain backend systems using Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
• Improve development processes through automation and simplification.
• Collaborate to ensure technically sound, observable, and testable deliverables.
• Contribute to estimation, planning, and proactive issue resolution.
• Support deployments to internal environments and production systems.
• Adjust priorities when necessary and contribute beyond assigned tasks.
