Job summary

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board seeks a qualified nurse to deliver school-based immunisations and community clinic sessions across designated areas. You will ensure timely vaccination of pupils, maintain accurate records, and participate in staff development and audits.

The role requires evidence-based practice, consent handling, and proficiency in IM and nasal vaccine administration, with flexibility to travel between sites.

Qualifications

  • Registered nurse with current practice (NMC, GPhC, HCPC as applicable).
  • Experience delivering immunisations in schools or primary/secondary care is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver immunisations to school-aged children in schools and community clinics.
  • Record keeping in line with policy and guidelines; incident reporting and safeguarding.
  • Administer injections (IM and nasal) and obtain verbal consent from parents/guardians.
  • Work collaboratively with the team and line managers to ensure service continuity.
  • Attend multiple sites as directed and participate in audits and staff development.

Job description

The post holder will be responsible for undertaking clinical/administrative duties relating to immunisation, primarily delivered on site for primary and secondary children in schools and in community clinic settings across Epping & Harlow.,

  • Vaccinate 20 to 25 school children per hour (Flu season).
  • Work collaboratively to support the team, organisation, and company stakeholders, to facilitate the smooth continuity of service delivery.
  • Promote and support the operation of our School Aged Immunisation Service.
  • Support Clinical Lead, Team Lead and Programme Managers as applicable.
  • Attend sites across different locations as directed by your line manager.
  • Deliver an effective, evidence based and competent level of care to patients.
  • Participate in clinical supervision and the performance and development of staff.
  • Ensure all clinical incidents, near misses and complaints are reported, monitored and processed in line with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Participate in audits, making recommendations based on findings and sharing outcomes with the team for learning.
  • Ensure record keeping is up to date and in line with company policy, procedure and guidelines.
  • Actively and constructively contribute to team meetings.
  • Undertake Gillick Competency Assessments and take verbal consent from parents and caregivers.
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the level of this position.
  • Comply with Company policies & procedures.
  • Immunisations and proof of Hepatitis B, MMR & Varicella., Travel to various sites as needed, working within a small team of vaccinators.
  • Administer vaccinations efficiently to meet VUK's hourly vaccination targets, ensuring timely vaccination of school children. This will include IM and nasal vaccinations, so must be proficient in administering IM injections.
  • Undertake clinical triage of consent forms and contact parents/guardians as needed before or after clinical sessions.
  • Address clinical enquiries from parents/guardians and VUK staff within the scope of your knowledge.
  • Transport vaccines to and from sessions as required.
  • Participate in clinical supervision and contribute to staff performance and development.
  • Report, monitor, and process all clinical incidents and near misses in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all safeguarding concerns are promptly reported and thoroughly followed up.
  • Participate in audits as required by the Clinical Lead.
  • Undertake health promotion activities as required by the Clinical Lead.
  • Conduct Gillick Competency Assessments and obtain verbal consent from parents and caregivers via phone, both at vaccination sessions and from the office base.
  • Maintain a professional demeanour as the representative of Vaccination UK when attending schools.
  • Perform other duties appropriate to the role.

  • Understanding the Cold Chain Policy, Registered Nurse, Pharmacist or Allied Healthcare professional actively registered with their governing body: NMC, GPhC, HCPC.
  • Nursing and/or Midwifery Qualification.
  • Immunisations and proof of Hepatitis B, MMR & Varicella., Basic Life Support certification.
  • Evidence of signed off competencies for relevant vaccinations.
  • Proficiency in administering IM injections.
    Vaccination UK has been commissioned by NHS England since 2015 to provide school aged immunisations, including Influenza, to pupils across numerous counties and Boroughs across England.
