Job description

An excellent opportunity to work in the busy ICT department within The Meadows School as an ICT Technician Apprentice. This role offers real work experience while you gain qualifications and kick‑start your career in ICT.

Responsibilities
  • Log and troubleshoot staff IT issues.
  • Handle enquiries from staff and parents (face‑to‑face, telephone, email).
  • Provide suitable IT troubleshooting, advice and guidance through training.
  • Log all requests correctly and manage workload effectively.
  • Apply priority‑setting and escalation procedures.
  • Use the knowledge base and other systems to retrieve and update information.
  • Work closely with ICT support staff to make effective use of the working week.
  • Support teaching staff and pupils during IT lessons.
  • Interpret and prioritise customer requirements in line with policy.
  • Apply appropriate tools and techniques for fault finding and rectification.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to support business output and technical developments.
  • Operate safely and securely across platforms, maintaining data privacy.
  • Communicate with stakeholders at all levels, keeping them informed of progress and managing escalation where appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, customers and other stakeholders.
  • Manage and prioritise workload efficiently.
  • Complete relevant documentation and escalate when necessary.
  • Install or carry out basic software upgrades, physically or remotely.
  • Use basic scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Linux) for routine tasks.
  • Carry out routine maintenance across IT and communications systems, ensuring organisational compliance.
  • Apply necessary security measures in line with access and encryption requirements.
  • Use cabling, connectors and diagnostic equipment to resolve telecommunications requirements.
  • Test, evaluate and monitor network performance, including DNS and firewalls.
  • Deploy applications on the network and set up storage and data access for staff.
  • Maintain a safe working environment in line with Health & Safety guidelines.

Apprenticeship Details

At the end of the programme you will gain a Level 3 Information Communications Technician apprenticeship standard. The curriculum includes 20% Off‑the‑Job Training and a robust Mandatory Apprentice Training programme provided by Sandwell Council, covering Workplace Professionalism, Equality and Diversity, and relevant functional skills.

Remuneration

£11,778 for your first year, with potential increases depending on age.

Hours & Dates

Monday to Friday – 30 hours per week. Shifts to be confirmed. Start date: Friday 2 January 2026. Duration: 1 year 5 months.
