Description du poste

Job Purpose

This is a development role. You’ll join the integrated solution services team, which focuses on infrastructure, cloud, automation, and security, as we move towards secure, automated, AI enabled services. You’ll work alongside the engineers and architects, and you’ll be encouraged to lean on experienced colleagues as you grow. As your skills develop, you’ll take on more ownership of automation and AI work.the postholder will help build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, assist with development of AI tooling and features, and will turn business and technical requirements into reliable, repeatable automation that reduces manual effort and risk.

Role and Key Responsibilities
  • Write, test and maintain Infrastructure as Code, mainly using Terraform, to build and change cloud resources in Azure, following agreed standards and patterns.
  • Support the development of AI enabled tools and services, and help identify where AI can improve how the department works.
  • Automate repetitive operational and administrative tasks using scripting (for example PowerShell and Python) and approved tools.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, using Git, pull requests and peer review for all code, and respond constructively to review feedback.
  • Build security into your work from the start, including careful handling of credentials and secrets, with guidance from the Cloud Security Architect.
  • Document what you build so others can use and support it.
  • Help investigate failed pipelines and deployments, resolving issues or escalating them to senior colleagues.
  • Take an active part in your own development by agreeing a learning plan, working towards relevant certifications, and joining team ceremonies such as stand‑ups and retrospectives.
Position, goals, and measures

Your goals are to become a productive contributor to the team’s automation, Infrastructure as Code and AI work, to deliver secure, well‑documented and peer‑reviewed code that follows team standards, and to build practical skills through a structured development plan. You’ll take on increasing ownership as your skills grow.

Progress is measured through the quality of your peer‑reviewed work, the completeness of your documentation, progress against your learning plan (including entry‑level certifications such as AZ‑900 or HashiCorp Terraform Associate), and feedback from colleagues and stakeholders.

Essential Experience and Capabilities
  • A degree in computer science, software engineering, IT or a related technical subject, or equivalent practical experience (for example an apprenticeship or recognised training programme).
  • A genuine interest in cloud, automation and infrastructure, shown through study, personal projects, placements or home labs (for example a GitHub portfolio).
  • Understanding AI fundamentals including large language models (LLMs), inference, retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), natural language processing (NLP) and prompt engineering. Ideally you’ll have completed an AI project, either independently or as part of your degree.
  • Basic programming or scripting ability in at least one language (for example Python, PowerShell or Bash).
  • An understanding of core IT concepts, including security, networking (IP addressing, DNS, firewalls), operating systems (Windows and Linux) and identity (users, groups and permissions).
  • Awareness of cloud computing concepts and at least one major cloud platform, ideally Microsoft Azure.
  • Familiarity with version control using Git.
  • The ability to take a business or technical requirement, ask good questions to clarify it, and break it down into practical steps.
  • A logical, analytical approach to problem‑solving, with good attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to document work so that others can follow it.
  • A willingness to learn, accept feedback and lean on colleagues for support, and to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • An awareness of the importance of security when working with systems and data.

Desirable Experience and Qualifications
  • Exposure to Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools (for example Bicep or CloudFormation) and secure development practices.
  • Participation in AI development projects converting business processes to repeatable, secure outcomes.
  • Entry‑level certifications, for example Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ‑900), HashiCorp Terraform Associate or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.
  • Exposure to CI/CD tools (for example GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps) or DevOps practices.
  • Relevant work experience, such as an industrial placement, internship or apprenticeship in an IT or engineering team.
  • Exposure to containers (for example Docker) or configuration management tools (for example Ansible).
Work Conditions and Environment
  • Location
    • Location is flexible, based at the organisation's office nearest to where the postholder lives. Regular attendance is expected, particularly in the early stages of the role, to learn alongside colleagues, take part in workshops and pairing, and build working relationships. This is not a remote‑first role.
  • Working pattern
    • Full‑time, with occasional flexibility to support planned change activity outside core business hours, with support from senior colleagues.
  • Working principles
    • Operate within a regulated and audited environment, following change management, security, compliance and documentation standards, including keeping code, changes and decisions auditable through version control.
    • Work collaboratively within the team, asking questions early, seeking help when needed and sharing knowledge openly.
    • Apply a security‑first mindset to all automation, handling credentials, secrets and access with care.
    • The organisation expects rapid, pragmatic delivery and execution, with a preference for automation and repeatable patterns over manual effort.
  • Culture and personal fit
    • The organisation values pace, outcomes and pragmatic decision‑making. The successful candidate will be curious, eager to learn and comfortable asking for help, as well as sociable and collaborative, while taking pride in the quality of their work.
  • Technical environment context
    • The organisation operates a 100% VDI, hybrid ICT environment with on‑premise data centre infrastructure, Active Directory and Group Policy, a small Azure cloud footprint, Microsoft 365 and AWS use, and is moving towards an AI enabled, cloud‑first model. The postholder will gain exposure across these areas, with a focus on supporting AI development and automating the cloud platform.
