Job description
Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a clinical fellow to join our Intensive Care team. The RUH ICU admits approximately 1000 patients per year with 85% as emergencies, including critically unwell children.

Our patient cohort is a 60% medical – 40% surgical split with a mean age of 61, average length of stay 2.7 days and a standardised mortality ratio of 0.93 (meaning that more of our patients survive compared to similar sized units).

In December 2024 we move to a brand‑new ward, B36, with 16 beds and a range of negative, neutral and positive pressure ventilated rooms. The new ward will offer excellent facilities for patients, relatives and staff, with increased spaces to work and rest compared to our current unit.

Day shifts are staffed by 2 consultants and 3 resident doctors (minimum 2 SHO, 1 Middle Grade) seven days a week. Management and leadership opportunities are offered to more senior trainees. Our monthly journal club, M&M and clinical governance sessions provide good learning opportunities for doctors in training, alongside a strong track record in research and quality improvement.
