Overview

We currently have an opportunity for an instrumentation, control & automation (ICA) technician to join our waste pumping team based out of Crossness.

You will work on all aspects of Technology to include installations, commissioning, maintenance and repairs. Technology to include, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, associated PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), process control networks and instrumentation.

As a successful candidate, you will work within multi-disciplinary teams, alongside a range of operational teams such as systems, mechanical and electrical technicians.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact and you will be actively helping to reduce pollution from our sites.

What you’ll be doing as the ICA Technician
  • You will be required to carry out instrumentation, control, and automation maintenance on a variety of water production assets including planned maintenance and preventative and reactive maintenance.
  • Liaise with and supervise contractors and suppliers where necessary.
  • This vital role also involves the investigation into plant failures and the implementation of subsequent repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the supply process. Additionally, you will conduct risk assessments and create appropriate method statements when required to safely carry out maintenance activities.
  • You will be responsible for providing specialist technical advice where appropriate with up-to-date technical knowledge and provide training support for technical trainees and support project development and input into capital delivery projects.

Base Location: Crossness STW – SE2 9AQ

Working Pattern 38 Hours Monday- Friday 7:30am – 3:36pm

All PPE, tools, van and fuel card are Provided.

What you should bring to the role
  • A strong practical understanding of operational plant and control systems is essential. As well as an understanding of Wonderware (desirable) and ClearSCADA, relay logic and PLCs (Rockwell & Allen-Bradley) which will include management and programming. The ideal candidate will have the ability to read and fault find from circuit diagrams as well as have previous experience of inverter drives.
  • Examples of some instrumentation you could be working on are flow meters, pressure levels, ultrasonics, and telemetry.
  • We are looking for someone with experience in the calibration and maintenance of front-line instrumentation. Ideally, you will be qualified to HNC level or otherwise will have City and Guilds Part 2 or NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in an electrical subject.
  • Ability to prioritise and self-motivated.
  • Due to the nature of the role, a valid driving licence is essential, and the post will work across several sites in your assigned region.
