Jackson Hogg are delighted to be partnered with PD Ports, a leading UK port and logistics operator, who are looking to recruit a skilled Hydraulic Technician to join their engineering team.

Role Overview

The Hydraulic Technician will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of hydraulic systems on port marine equipment. The role ensures equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and adherence to safety and engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out routine inspections, servicing, and repairs of hydraulic systems on marine and port equipment, including linkspans/RORO, hydraulic engines, winches, cranes, and auxiliary deck systems.
  • Diagnose faults in hydraulic circuits and carry out rectifications using appropriate tools and test equipment.
  • Work from hydraulic schematics, technical manuals, and service records.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns, often in marine or exposed environments, ensuring minimal operational disruption.
  • Collaborate with OEMs and engineering teams on system upgrades, retrofits, or component replacements.
  • Maintain accurate service records, fault logs, and spares tracking using the company ERP system.
  • Ensure all activities comply with safety legislation, lifting operations, permit-to-work systems, and PD Ports engineering standards.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in hydraulic maintenance and repair, ideally within a marine, port, or industrial environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and technical documentation.
  • Strong fault diagnosis and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic test equipment and safe working practices.
  • Experience liaising with OEMs or engineering teams on system upgrades or component replacement.
  • Commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience working on marine port equipment such as linkspans, winches, or RORO systems.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems for maintenance tracking.
  • Relevant qualifications in hydraulics or mechanical engineering
