Job summary

A global biscuits and confectionery business in Halifax is seeking a Hygiene Compliance Team Manager to ensure high hygiene standards across the site and manage cleaning operatives. This role requires knowledge of Food Safety legislation and experience in a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will lead contractor management and drive efficiency improvements while ensuring compliance with hygiene regulations. This position will contribute to maintaining the quality of beloved treats like Milkyway and McVitie’s.

What will this role achieve?

The Hygiene Compliance Team Manager will ensure high standards of hygiene across the Halifax site and manage the site’s cleaning operatives. You’ll oversee compliance with the pladis Cleaning Management System (CMS) and maintain production area hygiene at all times. This role also includes managing site-based cleaning contractors and waste removal partners, while applying lean techniques to drive efficiency improvements.

Key deliverables

Reporting to the UK Manufacturing Standards Manager and based at Halifax, you will:

  • Manage all cleaning activities in and around production areas, maintaining everyday hygiene standards.
  • Ensure compliance with cleaning schedules and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Plan and prioritise work to maximise resource efficiency.
  • Achieve budget targets and monitor performance against KPIs.
  • Lead contractor management for cleaning and waste removal services.
  • Identify and publish key performance indicators related to hygiene activities.

Essential
  • Proven experience in a hygiene role within FMCG.
  • Significant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of Food Safety and Health & Safety legislation.
  • IT proficiency and ability to manage data effectively.
  • Collaborative team player with strong communication skills.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently to achieve results.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of bakery manufacturing processes and hygiene systems.
  • Auditing skills and cleanliness standards.
  • Leadership and management experience (Level 2 or equivalent).
  • Awareness of COSHH, pest control, and safe machinery practices.
  • Food & Drink Safety Passport or NVQ Level 2 Cleaning Support Services.
Interview process

1st stage interview –45 minutes - online competency‑based interview based on our company values and your experiences.

2nd stage interview – 60 minutes – on site technical interview to understand your skill set/case study or presentation interview.

pladis does also use both Psychometric and Aptitude tests to support our processes so you may be asked to complete these as part of your process. Some processes may differ, but we will keep you updated!
