Job summary

A multinational company is looking for a Project Design Engineer based in the UK to provide technical expertise in the design and installation of substation layouts for a range of projects. This is a contract role initially until March 2026, with a competitive daily rate of £515 - £537. The position offers a hybrid work model primarily home-based, with occasional meetings in Birmingham. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and relevant engineering qualifications.

Qualifications

• Experience in Transmission or Distribution practices (400kV to 11 kV).
• Knowledge of industry standards including National Grid / SSE / SPEN / DNO requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop technical specifications and material schedules for primary equipment.
• Provide substation layouts and associated detail diagrams according to UK standards.
• Check and approve project documentation.
• Produce engineering time estimates and support monthly forecasts.
• Input into design and hazard review meetings.
