Job summary

Speechmatics is seeking an ML Data & Platform Engineer to own the infrastructure that powers our speech AI models, building data pipelines and the platform that trains, evaluates, and serves models in production.

You'll work across data infrastructure, distributed systems and production ML, taking ownership end-to-end to reduce friction and accelerate model improvement in a hybrid office environment in the United Kingdom.

Qualifications

• Strong Python and SQL skills with backend or data engineering foundation.
• Experience building scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes, including data acquisition.
• Hands-on with containerisation/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud providers.
• Understanding of the ML lifecycle from data to training and serving.
• Experience with data quality practices and observability in production.
• Ability to design resilient, scalable data architectures and distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines for ingesting, transforming, validating, and storing large training datasets.
• Develop web scraping and data acquisition solutions to keep datasets fresh and high quality at scale.
• Build and operate infrastructure for deploying and evaluating models in production and serving them efficiently.
• Optimize infrastructure for iteration speed and production reliability, including GPU usage and training efficiency.
• Implement observability across data pipelines and ML systems to catch issues early.
