Job summary

Nottingham Trent University is hiring a Health and Safety Advisor to join the central Health, Safety & Wellbeing Team. The role covers diverse settings including agriculture, technical workshops, and built environment studios, promoting a positive safety culture and ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation.

The role involves conducting risk assessments, supporting the Safety Management System, and delivering training and toolbox talks.

Qualifications

• Proactive health and safety professional able to work across multiple environments.
• Strong ability to influence safety culture and drive compliant practices.
• Experience delivering health and safety training and inductions.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert health and safety advice across agricultural, technical, and built environment settings.
• Support development and implementation of NTU's Health & Safety Management System.
• Conduct risk assessments, inspections, and audits in farms, workshops, labs, and studios.
• Collaborate with farm managers, technicians, academics, and stakeholders to maintain safe systems of work.
• Advise on legislation and best practices (PUWER, LOLER, COSHH, CDM, workplace transport, machinery safety).
• Assist investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Deliver health and safety training, inductions, and toolbox talks.
• Assist with contractor management, emergency preparedness, and business continuity planning.
• Promote continuous improvement and a positive safety culture across the university.
