Job summary

Hadean is seeking an Engineering Manager for populAI to lead a multidisciplinary team of software, QA and DevOps engineers. You will own delivery, set expectations, remove blockers and partner with the Product Manager and senior technical leadership to align product priorities with technical execution.

You will remain technically credible, influence architecture decisions, and maintain focus on people development while driving delivery across live exercises and client integrations.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a software engineering team and improving delivery.
• Engineering management as a craft with product partnership.
• Partnered with Product to shape priorities and push back on scope.
• Handled underperformance, conflict, ambiguity, and difficult conversations.
• Experience with behavioural or agent-based simulation of people or systems.
• Proficiency with C++ for performance-sensitive, real-time applications.
• Ability to obtain and maintain UK Security Vetting to at least SC level.

Responsibilities

• Own delivery end-to-end for populAI — translate product goals into executable plans and renegotiate early when needed.
• Line-manage a multidisciplinary team: set expectations, give feedback, conduct performance and development conversations.
• Stay hands-on and contribute delivery work when pressure requires it for codebase understanding.
• Own hiring for the team — define profiles, run the process, advocate for necessary headcount.
• Partner with the Product Manager to understand the commercial environment, negotiate scope and timeline.
• Collaborate with the technical lead and senior specialists on direction and architecture decisions.
• Shape the team environment, bringing customer and business context to ensure alignment and autonomy.
