Job summary

National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) is seeking a DSO Engineer to join the Primary System Models and Data team. Based in any main NGED office (Bristol, Cardiff, Castle Donington or Tipton), hybrid work is supported after training.

You will develop and maintain offline power system models and datasets, and provide analysis tools for planning and insights. You will collaborate with engineering, data analytics and software development to advance a smarter, more flexible electricity

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of power system modelling principles.
  • Experience with technical datasets and developing scripts, tools and automation solutions.
  • Familiarity with power system analysis software (PSS E, IPSA, Sincal or PowerFactory).
  • Knowledge of Python or similar scripting languages; SQL, Microsoft Access and Pandas are beneficial.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work in a distributed team; data quality focus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and development of offline power system models and datasets.
  • Provision of modern power system analysis software to support planning and analysis
  • Development and support of new analysis tools for network planning and insights.
  • Support scenario-based planning, energy forecasting and security assessments.
  • Calculate specialist datasets to support regulatory and industry obligations.
  • Provide and analyse technical data with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve efficiency and embed best practices.
