Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is seeking a Consultant Ecologist in the Middlesbrough area. The role includes flexible hybrid working and a commitment to training, development, and memberships, with a focus on delivering ecological consulting from site assessments to reporting.

You will conduct habitat and protected species surveys, contribute to Biodiversity Net Gain projects, and prepare high‑quality technical reports while supporting clients through the planning stages.

Qualifications

• Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
• Previous experience working within an ecological consultancy.
• Practical experience undertaking ecological and/or protected species surveys.
• Strong technical report‑writing and communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
• Full right to work in the UK.
• Living in Middlesbrough or within a reasonable commuting distance.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a diverse range of ecological projects from site assessments through to reporting and specialist advice.
• Undertake habitat and protected species surveys as part of projects.
• Contribute to Biodiversity Net Gain projects and planning support.
• Prepare high-quality technical reports for clients and stakeholders.
• Support clients throughout the planning process.
