Job summary

PRS in Croydon is seeking an experienced HV Electrical Shift Lead Engineer to take ownership of electrical systems on a large critical site. You will lead on shift, manage HV/LV plant, and guide a team through routine operations and high‑pressure incidents.

The role features a continental shift pattern, a competitive base salary of £60k plus shift allowance and bonus opportunities, with overtime and long‑term contract potential on a demanding site.

Qualifications

• Electrical qualification recognised (NVQ/C&G Level 3 or equivalent).
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations required.
• Experience with HV systems; Authorised Person status essential.
• Background in critical environments (data centres, healthcare, large sites).
• Experience working in a shift pattern and strong fault-finding skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as the lead engineer on shift, overseeing all electrical operations on site.
• Operate and control HV and LV systems safely and effectively.
• Deliver and supervise planned preventive maintenance and reactive works.
• Respond to and manage critical incidents to minimise downtime.
• Monitor switchgear, UPS, generators, and power distribution.
• Ensure permit-to-work and safe operating procedures are followed.
• Provide technical support and guidance to engineers on shift.
• Maintain shift reports, logbooks and compliance documentation.
• Liaise with site management, clients and contractors as required.

The Opportunity

A well-established Facilities Management provider is seeking an experienced HV Electrical Shift Lead Engineer to take a leading role at a large, critical site in Croydon. This is an environment where reliability is everything. The site operates around the clock, and the engineering team plays a direct role in maintaining uptime and protecting essential infrastructure. The successful candidate will act as the lead engineer on shift, taking ownership of electrical systems and guiding the team through both routine operations and high-pressure situations.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the lead engineer on shift, overseeing all electrical operations on site
• Operate and control high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) systems safely and effectively
• Deliver and supervise planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive works
• Respond to and manage critical incidents, ensuring minimal disruption to operations
• Monitor systems including switchgear, UPS, generators, and power distribution
• Ensure compliance with permit-to-work systems and safe operating procedures
• Provide technical support and guidance to engineers on shift
• Maintain detailed shift reports, logbooks, and compliance documentation
• Liaise with site management, clients, and specialist contractors when required

Essential:

• Recognised electrical qualification (NVQ / C&G Level 3 or equivalent)
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
• Proven experience working with HV systems (Authorised Person status required)
• Background in critical environments such as data centres, healthcare, or large commercial sites
• Experience working within a shift pattern
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills

Desirable:

• Previous experience as a Shift Lead or Supervisor
• Familiarity with BMS and control systems
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers
