About the Role

As an HV Cable Design Engineer, you will ensure the quality and consistency of the team's output, including drawings and technical documents. You will lead project work production through robust checking processes and contribute to the development of drawing office standards.

Principal Responsibilities & Accountabilities

You will have experience in designing, calculating, and producing reports and drawings for EHV projects (11kV – 400kV), including bonding line diagrams, material specifications, and calculations related to cable ratings, induced voltage, short circuit force, thermo-mechanical thrust, and pulling tension.

Skills & Experience

• Experience with technical specifications from clients like National Grid, SSE, Scottish Power, UKPN, WPD, ENWL, etc.
• Understanding of IEC & ENA standards
• Proficiency in MathCAD, CYMCAP, COMSOL, and similar software
• Background in Design & HAZID reviews
• Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, member of IET
• Expertise in cable system engineering, HVAC, and HVDC systems
• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities
• Good written communication skills, including report writing
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Willingness to undertake site visits and liaise with clients and contractors

Additional Experience

• Designing cable system requirements: current ratings, impressed voltage, overload ratings, cable crossing ratings, bonding diagrams, material schedules, thermo-mechanical calculations, quality documents.
