Job summary

Supply Desk Ltd is seeking an ambitious Humanities Lead in Aylesbury to head the department and drive excellence in History, Geography and RS across all key stages.

You will lead curriculum design, monitor progress with data, and mentor staff while working with Senior Leadership on school-wide priorities. The role offers a competitive salary with a Teaching and Learning Responsibility (TLR) and strong CPD.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) required.
  • Significant experience teaching Humanities at secondary level.
  • Strong subject knowledge in History, Geography, Religious Studies, or another Humanities discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Humanities department across key stages.
  • Develop and deliver an engaging, ambitious Humanities curriculum.
  • Monitor student progress using data to drive improvements.
  • Mentor and develop Humanities team through coaching and performance management.
  • Promote high-quality teaching and share best practice department-wide.
  • Oversee curriculum planning, assessment and development plans.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, attendance and attainment.
  • Collaborate with Senior Leadership on whole-school priorities.
  • Support enrichment activities and external educational visits.

Role: Humanities Lead

Location: Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire

Contract: Full-Time | Permanent

Start Date: November 2026/ January 2027

Salary: £31,650 – £49,084 + TLR (Dependent on Experience)

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Humanities department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Develop and deliver an engaging, ambitious, and inclusive Humanities curriculum.
  • Monitor student progress and attainment, using data to drive improvements and close achievement gaps.
  • Support, mentor, and develop members of the Humanities team through coaching and performance management.
  • Promote outstanding classroom practice and share best practice across the department.
  • Oversee curriculum planning, assessment, quality assurance, and departmental development plans.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, attendance, and academic achievement.
  • Work closely with Senior Leadership to contribute to whole-school improvement priorities.
  • Lead and support enrichment activities, educational visits, and extracurricular opportunities.
  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, carers, and external stakeholders.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Significant experience teaching Humanities at secondary level.
  • Strong subject knowledge in History, Geography, Religious Studies, or another Humanities discipline.
  • Previous middle leadership experience or a proven ability to lead and inspire colleagues.
  • A track record of raising attainment and improving outcomes.
  • Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
  • A passion for curriculum development and delivering exceptional educational experiences.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and continuous professional development.
  • Holds or is willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS check and provide professional references.
