Job Description
Key responsibilities:
- Maintain and develop Health, Safety & Environmental systems in line with legal, ISO, and internal standards.
- Promote a positive HSE culture through regular shop‑floor presence, engagement, and behavioural improvement initiatives.
- Conduct accident and incident investigations, identify root causes, and ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
- Prepare and review risk assessments, SOPs, COSHH documentation, and maintain chemical substance registers.
- Support ISO14001 accreditation and help ensure all departments remain audit‑ready.
- Deliver new starter inductions and contribute to departmental training programmes, including occupational health surveillance.
- Perform internal audits and assist with external audit preparation.
- Control contractors and ensure safe systems of work are consistently applied.
- Collate KPI data for HSE performance and support customer audit requirements.
- Attend or chair HSE meetings and support cross‑functional teams to achieve shared goals.
- Deputise for the Group HSE Director when required.
The Successful Applicant
The successful candidate:
- Qualified to Level 6 in a Health & Safety discipline (or working towards).
- Experienced in managing and maintaining ISO‑accredited HSE systems (ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001).
- Ideally brings Environmental Management qualifications and experience within FMCG or manufacturing.
- Strong communicator capable of influencing at all levels, from shop‑floor to senior leadership.
- Skilled in developing training, facilitating change, and embedding a strong safety culture.
- Confident conducting audits, risk assessments, COSHH evaluations, PUWER‑related documentation, and contractor control.
- Proactive, dynamic, solutions‑focused, and able to take ownership of HSE improvement initiatives.
- Holds a full UK driving licence and able to travel between sites.
