Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Asbestos Management Plan and ensure controls are up to date.
  • Manage Legionella control measures and oversee water hygiene risk assessments.
  • Ensure electrical compliance through regular inspections and testing.
  • Act as the site lead for the Environmental Permit.
  • Support the HSE Manager in incident investigations.
  • Maintain records and compliance with ISO standards.
  • Prepare compliance dashboards and KPI reports.

HSE & Compliance Officer

Location: Preston

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 DOEWe

We are seeking a dedicated HSE & Compliance Officer to ensure our clients site maintains full compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation and permit conditions. Reporting to the HSE Manager, this role is crucial in managing day-to-day compliance activities, statutory registers, and leading Environmental Permit administration.

The successful candidate will also support the implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 management systems, and manage key compliance areas such as asbestos, Legionella, and electrical safety.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and update statutory compliance registers across the site, including various systems and safety checks.
  • Oversee the Asbestos Management Plan, ensuring all surveys, registers, re-inspections, and controls are up to date.
  • Manage Legionella control measures and oversee water hygiene risk assessments, sampling, monitoring, and contractor controls.
  • Ensure electrical compliance through regular inspections, testing, and tracking of electrical installations.
  • Act as the site lead for the Environmental Permit, ensuring all conditions are met and managing reporting requirements to the Environment Agency.
  • Support the HSE Manager in incident investigations by collating evidence and drafting reports.
  • Maintain records and compliance with ISO standards, conducting internal audits and contributing to management review meetings.
  • Prepare compliance dashboards and KPI reports, ensuring all documentation is controlled, up-to-date, and audit‑ready.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of environmental permitting and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with asbestos management, Legionella control, and EICR processes.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001; auditing experience is desirable.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate required; NEBOSH Environmental or equivalent is desirable.
  • BOHS P405 (Asbestos Management) or equivalent and Legionella awareness training preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office and compliance tracking systems.
  • Excellent organisational, record‑keeping, and communication skills.
