Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent required.
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, utilities or transmission projects.
  • Full UK Driving Licence essential.
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Experience conducting site inspections and audits.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a proactive health and safety culture across all project activities.

United Infrastructure supports this transition by delivering fully integrated power infrastructure solutions across transmission and distribution networks. As an Independent Connection Provider (ICP), we deliver end-to-end design, construction, and maintenance of electrical networks up to 400kV.**What are we looking for:**As part of our services, the Power Transmission & Distribution (UIPT&D) team are seeking a full-time, site based HSE Adviser to support the delivery of power transmission and distribution construction projects by providing competent health, safety and environmental advice, assurance and guidance to project teams, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, client standards, company procedures and industry best practice.The project, based in Alness, Scotland, is to construct and install energy transmission infrastructure covering approximately 80km of the Scottish Highlands between Loch Buidhe to Beauly.**About the role:**Reporting to the HSE Lead, the HSE Adviser is responsible in supporting the safe delivery of the project with all works carried out safely, legally, and with minimal environmental impact. The role provides day-to-day support, assurance, monitoring, and coaching to project teams constructing overhead lines, substations, underground cables, and associated infrastructure.The HSE Adviser will work closely with project teams to promote a positive Zero Harm culture, drive continuous improvement, and minimise environmental impacts while supporting efficient project delivery in compliance with legal requirements, client standards, and company procedures.**Other responsibilities of the role include:****Health & Safety Management*** Promote a proactive health and safety culture across all project activities.* Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and behavioural safety observations.* Monitor compliance with company procedures, client requirements, and statutory regulations.* Review and assess Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).* Support project teams in identifying hazards and implementing effective controls.* Monitor permit-to-work systems and high-risk activities.* Ensure lessons learned and safety alerts are effectively communicated to the workforce.* Assist in the development and implementation of project-specific HSE plans.* Support emergency preparedness and response arrangements.**Environmental Management*** Monitor compliance with environmental management plans and environmental commitments.* Conduct environmental inspections and audits on construction sites.* Support the protection of sensitive environmental receptors including watercourses, habitats, and protected species.* Verify implementation of pollution prevention measures.* Monitor waste management activities and compliance with waste legislation.* Support peat management, habitat reinstatement, and ecological protection activities where applicable.* Assist with environmental incident investigations and corrective actions.* Promote environmental awareness and sustainable construction practices.**Site Assurance and Monitoring*** Undertake routine site inspections across construction activities.* Identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and environmental non-conformances.* Raise observations and improvement opportunities.* Monitor close-out of corrective and preventive actions.* Verify compliance with lifting, excavation, temporary works, work at height and traffic management requirements.* Support internal and external audits.**Incident Investigation*** Participate in investigations relating to accidents, near misses, environmental incidents, and property damage.* Gather evidence, conduct interviews, and prepare investigation reports.* Identify immediate, underlying and root causes.* Assist in developing corrective and preventive actions.* Monitor completion of investigation actions.* Help communicate lessons learned across projects.**Workforce Engagement*** Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and environmental awareness sessions.* Participate in site-start meetings and project reviews.* Engage positively with employees, subcontractors, and client representatives.* Coach and support supervisors and managers in HSE leadership.* Encourage proactive reporting of hazards, observations and near misses.*
