Job summary

ITM Power, based in Sheffield, is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to provide health, safety and environmental guidance across the business and drive continuous improvement.

The role requires NEBOSH certification (minimum) with strong knowledge of UK EHS regulations and ISO standards, plus experience in a manufacturing setting. A proactive safety culture and excellent communication are essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide HSE advice across the business and drive continuous improvement.

What are we looking for

We have an opportunity for a HSE Advisor to provide health, safety and environmental advice and guidance across the business in meeting and exceeding our internal, customer, legal and wider stakeholder expectations and requirements and driving a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities For The Role Include
  • Support the health, safety and environmental (HSE) activities within the QHSE Team to maintain legal compliance across the ITM Power sites.
  • Support the development, implementation and ongoing monitoring of policies, processes and work instructions to continuously improve the integrated HSE Management System.
  • Identify and deliver Health and Safety improvement projects and plans.
  • Work with the Head of QHSE and Health & Safety Manager to ensure full implementation and continuous improvement of the HSE Management System and related ISO14001/ ISO45001 certifications.
  • Provide support to the HSE Manager.
  • Act as a key point of contact for the manufacturing teams and provide advice and guidance, as required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide advice on all aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
  • Hold monthly HSE Review Meetings with the Manufacturing Teams and report on department performance.
  • Create and analyse data dashboards on all aspects of HSE performance.
  • Provide advice and guidance on HSE legal compliance.
  • Assist the Health & Safety Manager in the development of HSE improvement plans.
  • Administer and update content on the HSE Hub.
  • Create and roll out HSE training packages as agreed by the HSE Manager.
  • Support the review and improvement of HSE processes, procedures and policies across the business.
  • Manage the HSE Internal Audit Schedule and lead HSE internal audits and inspections.
  • Ensure legal compliance regarding environmental permitting by liaising with operations and the wider HSE Team including those of emissions and trade effluent.
  • Audit the performance of the organisation against these permit requirements.
  • Provide support for external, regulatory, audit and trade bodies on health, safety and environmental matters (e.g. HSE, EA, LRQA).
  • Participate and support in accident and incident investigations, ensuring RIDDOR compliance.
  • Maintain and upkeep the contractor management system including contractor approvals.
  • Support the company occupational health programme in relation to occupational related health conditions/ injuries by reviewing occupational health reports and taking necessary action.
  • Support in the Risk/ COSHH Assessment programmes
  • Support the development of a proactive safety culture and drive key cultural improvements throughout the business
  • Assess the Company and individual needs for HSE training in respect of maintaining statutory levels of training and competence. Delivery HSE training within own area of expertise.
  • Compile and save all legal correspondence and documentation in line with business and statutory requirements.
  • Deputise for the H&S Manager, as required.
Collaborate with the H&S Manager and Head of QHSE to
  • Develop and maintain ITM health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement control measures.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Monitor and report on health and safety performance using KPIs.
  • Deliver training and toolbox talks to staff and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with H&S legislation (e.g. HSE Regulations, RIDDOR).
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure timely reporting of incidents.
About You
Knowledge and Experience
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum) or NEBOSH Diploma/ L5 Equivalent (desirable) or equivalent in Occupational Health & Safety
  • Educated to degree level (desirable)
  • NEBOSH Environmental Certificate or equivalent Environmental Education (desirable)
  • NEBOSH Process Safety (desirable)
  • NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management (desirable)
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK EHS legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with ISO 14001/ ISO45001 standards and audit processes.
  • Time and workload management, report writing and problem-solving skills.
