Job summary

A charitable trust is seeking an HR Officer/Manager to ensure consistent HR functions and support line managers. Duties include maintaining HR systems, handling employee documentation, and promoting staff wellbeing. Job description
HR Officer/Manager

Salary: Highly competitive, dependent on experience and skills (£40,000 - pro rata for part time) + Benefits.
Hours: Full or Part-time, permanent (minimum 3 days/21 hours per week).
Based at Ampleforth Abbey, YO62 – (based on site with opportunity to occasionally work hybrid).
Closing date: 12th December 2025.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure a professional, fair, and consistent approach to the HR function required by the Trust.
  • Ensure the organisations policies and procedures are compliant and adhered to, to minimise risk and thus promoting a positive culture within the Trust and they are reviewed and updated annually/as required.
  • Proactively work with and, in some instances, coach Line Managers to provide support/guidance/advice on how to manage HR issues within their areas and ensure documentation is accurate.
  • Embed best practice whilst ensuring that advice and documentation produced is compliant with relevant Trust policies and the ACAS Codes of Practice.
  • Maintain proactive relationships with line managers to support the overall delivery of the HR service.
  • Maintain the HR systems and documentation to keep all employee and HR information up to date.
  • Collate, analyse, and report on data to identify trends and provide pro‑active resolutions to any required improvements.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external suppliers who provide HR materials or services.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in HR.
  • Support the recruitment processes and provide support and documentation to recruiting managers as requested.
  • Produce required HR documentation, e.g. offers of employment, HR‑related letters, within agreed timeframes.
  • Promote and support the wellbeing of self and staff through a healthy work/life balance, managing energy levels and recovery after peak workloads.
Skills and Attributes
  • Proven experience as an HR Generalist or similar role – Employee Relations experience is required.
  • Proven record of creating, issuing, and ensuring documentation is accurate and records are up to date, including contracts, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of or aptitude for HR methodologies, strategies and techniques for the future as the role grows.
  • CIPD qualifications (minimum level 3) or a willingness to undertake this.
