Hybrid Working Available

A growing engineering and project delivery organisation is seeking an experienced HR Manager to take ownership of its people function and support a workforce operating across both office and site-based environments.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a hands-on HR leadership role offering significant autonomy and influence within a commercially focused business delivering projects across energy, infrastructure, industrial and engineering sectors.

We're looking for a confident and pragmatic HR professional who understands the realities of project-driven businesses, can build credibility with operational teams and senior leaders alike, and enjoys balancing strategic priorities with practical day-to-day HR delivery.

The Role

As HR Manager, you will lead the HR function and oversee all aspects of the employee lifecycle, supporting both office and project-based teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, developing and managing the HR team, setting clear expectations and driving accountability for delivery.

  • Providing expert guidance on employee relations matters including disciplinary, grievance and performance management processes.

  • Partnering with project and operational leaders on workforce planning and resource requirements.

  • Designing, implementing and embedding practical HR policies and procedures that support operational delivery while maintaining compliance.

  • Managing recruitment and resourcing activities across office and site-based functions.

  • Supporting pay, terms and conditions matters for a diverse operational workforce.

  • Driving employee engagement, retention and culture initiatives.

  • Working collaboratively with operational and safety teams on people-related compliance matters.

  • Ensuring compliance with UK employment legislation and HR best practice.

  • Producing HR metrics, workforce reporting and management information for senior leadership.

Essential Requirements:

An experienced HR professional who is comfortable operating within a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment.

Experience will include:

  • Previous HR management experience within engineering, construction, infrastructure, utilities, energy, manufacturing or another project-led environment.

  • A genuine understanding of site culture, project pressures and operational workforces.

  • Strong employee relations experience with the confidence to handle sensitive and potentially complex people matters professionally and fairly.

  • Experience leading and developing HR teams, delegating effectively and driving accountability.

  • Demonstrable experience developing and embedding HR policies and procedures within an operational business.

  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law.

  • Excellent relationship-building skills with the ability to engage effectively from frontline operatives through to senior leadership.

  • A confident and assertive communication style, capable of challenging constructively and influencing stakeholders when required.

  • A practical, commercially focused and solutions-oriented approach to HR.

Desirable Experience:

  • CIPD qualification or equivalent professional experience.

  • Experience supporting a site-based, mobile or project-driven workforce.

  • Knowledge of NAECI or similar engineering construction employment frameworks.

  • Experience working within major infrastructure, industrial, energy or engineering project environments.

What's On Offer

  • Full ownership of the HR function.

  • Direct exposure to senior leadership and business decision-making.

  • Opportunity to shape HR processes, culture and workforce strategy.

  • Hybrid working arrangements.

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.

  • Long-term career development within a successful and growing organisation.
