Job summary

Exeter Manufacturer is seeking a hands-on HR Manager to lead the HR function across the business. This 360 role covers policy evolution, employee relations, recruitment, and performance processes, reporting to the leadership team and supporting multiple UK locations.

The successful candidate will have at least five years of senior HR experience, ideally CIPD-qualified, with strong knowledge of employment law and experience using an HR database. This is a full-time role with standard hours.

Qualifications

• Five years’ HR experience at a senior level, within Manufacturing and/or Retail.
• Sound knowledge of personnel practice and up-to-date employment law.
• Hands-on ER environment where people matter; 360 role and admin heavy.
• Experience using an HR database.
• Strong communication, organisational and analytical abilities.

Responsibilities

• Evolve the company’s HR policy and practice in line with business strategy.
• Advise on best practice HR and resolve issues proactively.
• Oversee the workload of one HR Advisor.
• Ensure HR initiatives are implemented across the organisation.
• Oversee recruitment from requirement to appointment, induction and probation.

HR Manager

One of Exeter’s longest standing manufacturers of a quality, truly British product seeks a hands‑on, 360 generalist HR Manager to continue to take responsibility for all aspects of the Human Resources (HR) function. The HR Manager will be called upon to nurture and develop the business culture, supporting consistency throughout the business; whilst providing a critical link between multiple UK locations.

Role

• Evolution of the company’s HR policy and practice, ensuring impact and alignment with business Strategy.
• Proactively advise on best practice HR and, where necessary, take a hands‑on role in resolving issues/problems.
• Oversee the workload of one HR Advisor.
• Ensure HR initiatives are effectively implemented throughout the organisation.
• Oversee and directly involve recruitment, from requirement to appointment, induction and completion of the probationary period.
• Apply performance management, absence, disciplinary and grievance procedures in line with Company policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Five years’ HR experience at a senior level, specifically within a Manufacturing and/or Retail setting; ideally CIPD qualifications.
• Sound knowledge of personnel practice and procedure together with up‑to‑date knowledge of employment law.
• Desire to work in a hands‑on ER environment, where the people really matter. This is a 360 role – very hands‑on, admin heavy and interactive with staff at all levels, from Operator to Director.
• Strong organisational and analytical skills with excellent communication abilities.
• Previous experience of effectively using an HR database.
