Are you looking for a role where you can develop your knowledge as a HR professional in a supportive and friendly team? Look no further than our HR Advisor roles. This is an exciting time to join our team and CIPD development can be explored with the successful candidates. Our HR Advisors provide a professional advisory service to a range of stakeholders across our organisation to enable effective day to day people management. You will provide timely, accurate advice and guidance to line managers regarding a range of HR case work including absence, performance, and probation. This is a varied role, in a fast‑paced, forward‑thinking environment in an organisation which values its people. You will be responsible for taking policies, legislation, and best practice into consideration when providing advice to ensure compliance and facilitate decision making. You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of individuals across our organisation, providing advice and policy guidance to ensure that our people have the best possible experience at work. This role will suit you if you are passionate about providing good policy advice and can communicate information clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing. This role will provide you with the opportunity to evidence your ability to meet deadlines, use your initiative, prioritise workloads and work independently. We are keen to meet with individuals who also bring transferable skills and HR experience from other organisations and life experiences.

Job Details

Each position works 37 hours per week, over 5 days; Monday to Friday. Interviews are expected to take place in person on 3rd and 4th December 2025. You'll benefit from blended (hybrid) working across home and the office (Police HQ, Portishead). You will be required to travel to alternative locations across Avon and Somerset when required; travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with force policy.

Responsibilities
  • Support and guide managers and staff in relation to Police Regulations and Police Staff conditions of service, including the resolution of a range of employment issues.
  • Input data onto HR systems and databases, ensuring that this is accurate and producing reports as required.
  • Provide support to HR colleagues and work across the HR structure as required.
  • Support the implementation of changes in HR policies and procedures.
  • Champion our organisational values and principles of our people strategy, incorporating them into your approach to case work and projects.
Temporary Positions

1 x temporary HR Advisor to cover maternity leave – contract will last for up to 12 months.

1 x temporary HR Advisor to cover a temporary promotion – contract will end on 30th November 2026.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year’s experience working in a customer‑focused HR environment providing information and general advice or Level 3 CIPD qualified (or equivalent).
  • Good knowledge of a range of computer packages (including Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent administration skills with high attention to detail to manage information and data.
  • Ability to problem‑solve and work on own initiative.
  • Ability to influence and persuade.
  • Full current driving licence or ability to travel around the region using suitable transport.
  • To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3‑year “checkable history” in the UK – ideally this means you have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.
