The role:
We are looking for an HR Advisor to deliver expert HR advice and casework support, ensuring compliance with policies and current employment legislation. The role involves helping leaders and managers fulfil their workforce responsibilities in line with Department and Council plans and working with HR Service Desk colleagues to provide a high-quality HR service that promotes self-service while offering support when required.
You will be an experienced and trusted HR professional with comprehensive expertise across all workforce disciplines including strategy, employment law, change, and talent management, skilled in building effective teams, fostering collaboration, and influencing stakeholders to deliver organisational success.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide professional HR advice and practical support to managers and employees on all aspects of employee relations, ensuring compliance with employment law, council policy and relevant national frameworks
- Lead and manage complex employee relations casework (e.g. sickness, performance, disciplinary and grievance matters), ensuring timely, fair and consistent outcomes
- Coach and support managers to handle people issues confidently and independently, enhancing workforce capability and reducing reliance on HR intervention
- Prepare high-quality case documentation, maintain accurate HR records and ensure confidentiality and GDPR compliance
- Collaborate with the Employee Relations Policy Lead on policy development, sharing learning and ensuring consistent application across the team
- Build constructive relationships with Trade Union representatives, negotiating individual employment matters within policy boundaries
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of HR services, including policy development, process enhancement and the design and delivery of training and guidance
- Provide coaching and support to HR colleagues, particularly within the Service Desk and Operations teams, to promote effective case resolution
- Develop strong working relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and undertake additional duties as required to support team needs
