About the role

The Housing Support Grant (HSG) is a project supporting clients with drug and alcohol issues who are also at risk of losing their tenancy. Eligible clients must be in temporary, supported, emergency or private rented accommodation. The role involves working with community teams, external agencies and in-house services to support clients to remain housed and prevent homelessness.

Job responsibilities
  • Provide support to clients on the HSG who are at risk of losing their tenancy.
  • Work collaboratively with community, clinical, criminal justice and residential rehabilitation teams.
  • Assess clients’ housing needs and develop care plans to maintain accommodation.
  • Facilitate access to services that address substance misuse and other barriers to stable housing.
  • Maintain accurate, timely records of client interactions and progress.
  • Attend meetings with stakeholders to discuss client needs and outcomes.
  • Travel to various centres across Cornwall as required (full UK driving licence and own transport needed).
  • Work flexible and unsocial hours, including occasional Saturdays.
Essential skills
  • Demonstrable experience in outreach, housing/homelessness, social care, criminal justice or a related specialist setting.
  • Successful track record working with substance misuse clients.
  • Resilience and ability to prioritise and work under pressure.
  • Knowledge of health and safety and ability to assess high‑risk situations for service users.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • IT competence.
  • Understanding of homelessness assessment, care planning and key working.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Team‑player skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and own transport (business use).

  • Relevant professional experience in housing, homelessness, social care or related fields.
  • Experience in working with clients experiencing drug and alcohol issues.
  • Strong organisational and record‑keeping skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining a positive, client‑centred approach.
