Job summary

The London Borough of Merton is seeking a proactive Housing Supply Officer to join our Housing Supply team. You will work to help households in housing need access suitable private rented accommodation, working with landlords, letting agents and housing providers to secure opportunities and promote council initiatives.

You will assess affordability, support sustainable tenancies and provide guidance on welfare benefits, contributing to homelessness prevention and relief duties.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Proactively engage with landlords, letting agents and housing providers to identify and secure private rented accommodation.
• Promote accommodation procurement initiatives and available financial assistance schemes.
• Negotiate with landlords and agents to secure suitable and affordable housing opportunities.
• Assess properties for suitability, safety and compliance with housing legislation.
• Work with Housing Options and Temporary Accommodation teams to support households moving into private rented accommodation.
• Provide guidance on affordability, welfare benefits and Housing Benefit.
• Support landlords and tenants to resolve issues and sustain tenancies.
• Maintain records, monitor outcomes and contribute to service performance targets.
