Job summary

A leading employment agency is seeking a legal advisor in London to provide legal advice and manage litigation primarily concerning housing issues. The successful candidate will conduct various legal processes and support in-house teams while ensuring effective communication. This is a full-time temporary role offering experience in housing management.

Job description
Role Purpose

To provide legal advice and assistance on routine and standard housing management and landlord & tenant matters, as well as on more complex issues, with support from senior or experienced team members as appropriate to your level of skill and experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct efficient and effective litigation, including but not limited to:
    • Anti-social behaviour injunctions and possession claims
    • Committal applications
    • Tenancy fraud possession claims
    • Access injunctions
    • Housing disrepair claims
    • Prosecutions under the Environmental Protection Act
    • Applications to the Court of Protection
    • Money claims
    • Briefing Counsel and/or conducting advocacy where appropriate to protect the interests of Southern Housing and its Group partners
  • Depending on skill and experience, provide or assist in the provision of advice and conduct of other contentious matters, including:
    • First Tier Tribunal cases
    • Trespass, Right of Way, breach of Easement claims
    • Claims arising from contractor, landlord, or leaseholder non-performance or breach of contract/lease terms
  • Assist with instructing external solicitors for matters that cannot be dealt with in-house.
  • Support the development of the in-house legal provision to meet the needs of Southern Housing and its Group partners.
  • Ensure legal work is carried out in-house where cost-effective, including preparing and drafting pleadings for both routine and complex matters, such as:
    • Notices of seeking possession
    • Claim forms and particulars of claim
    • Defences and replies
    • Part 20 counterclaims
    • Injunctions and committal applications
    • Witness statements, case summaries, lists of issues, chronologies, and trial bundles
  • Ensure effective communication between instructing officers and the legal team.
  • Assist in developing and implementing processes and procedures for efficient housing management and litigation services, including:
    • Witness support, especially in anti-social behaviour cases (may include out-of-office visits)

This is a full time role on a temporary contract basis.
