iPeople Solutions is currently recruiting for Housing Needs Officer to work for our client based in Barnet and surrounding areas.

Description

The key purpose of the Housing Needs Officer post is to provide a high standard of housing assessment and homeless prevention to customers requesting help for housing assistance and to meet the Council’s statutory duties under the Housing Act 1996 Parts VI and VII, as amended by the Homeless Reduction Act.

The role involves making quality decisions on homelessness and housing need in accordance with legal, policy, and procedural standards within the department. The goal is to reduce the number of households living in temporary accommodation and unsuitable housing within the borough.

Key responsibilities include:
  1. Prevent homelessness and resolve housing difficulties through comprehensive advice and assistance using various prevention tools.
  2. Holistically assess customers’ circumstances via interviews, home visits, inquiries, and information verification to determine eligibility for housing.
  3. Manage a caseload effectively.
  4. Make legal decisions under the Housing Act 1996 Parts VI and VII that are robust and defensible in court.
  5. Provide detailed housing advice on issues such as eligibility, homelessness, tenancies, benefits, income maximization, arrears, harassment, unlawful eviction, home ownership, relationship breakdown, domestic violence, and related areas to prevent homelessness.
  6. Participate in frontline rotas.
