About Abeona Housing Co-operative

Abeona Housing Co-operative is a small, fully mutual housing co-op based in the Gospel Oak and Fleet Road area of North London. We provide secure, affordable homes for our members across 44 flats, mostly studio and one-bedroom properties, with a few larger family units.

As a resident-led organisation, Abeona is governed by its members through an elected Management Committee and supported by a small part-time team, including Finance and Maintenance professionals. Together, we ensure our homes are well‑managed, our policies are fair and transparent, and that members have an active voice in how the Co‑op is run.

Governance and oversight are provided by our Management, Finance, and Maintenance Committees, working closely with a part-time Finance Officer and Maintenance Manager.

We are currently strengthening our operational systems and preparing for a significant refurbishment and compliance programme across our buildings.

Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled freelance Housing Manager to consolidate Abeona’s housing operations, governance and compliance capacity. The contractor will maintain robust policies and procedures, ensure legal and regulatory compliance, and support committees to deliver high‑quality housing services and property improvement projects.

This engagement is ideal for an experienced housing professional or consultant who values flexible, part‑time work with a close‑knit co‑operative.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative and management support to Abeona’s members, committees and part‑time team.
  • Support the committees in maintaining and updating policies, procedures, and operations to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage day‑to‑day housing operations with Property Maintenance Manager and Finance Officer.
  • Manage any voids, lettings and new member applications with the support of the Membership Committee.
  • Manage and maintain the co‑operative’s filing and archiving systems, ensuring all correspondence, records, and documents are accurately organised and stored in both hard copy and digital formats using the MS365 Office suite.
  • Work collaboratively with the Finance Officer and Property Maintenance Manager, sub‑committees, and members to achieve organisational objectives.
  • Prepare meeting packs and attend monthly evening committee meetings (in person or remotely), providing concise reports and updates.
  • Operate independently on a freelance basis while maintaining clear communication and accountability to the Management Committee.
  • Support the MC in day‑to‑day member issues and in any formal complaints process.
Additional Information
  • This is a freelance, self‑employed position.
  • All contractors are expected to uphold Abeona Housing Co‑op’s Equality, Data Protection, and Health & Safety policies.
  • The role involves attending at least one evening meeting per month and occasional weekend meetings.
