Job description
Overview

HOUSEKEEPER or HOUSEKEEPING COUPLE - NORTHUMBERLAND. A new role of a Housekeeper or a Housekeeping Couple is required for a large house on an exceptional sporting estate in Northumberland. The family consists of husband and wife, 2 boys, 1 girl and 1 dog. The family live in London during term time (so would only visit 1-2 weekends per month max), but spend the majority of all school holidays in Northumberland. The house is in full swing during the months of August through to October and again during December and January, plus all 3 half term breaks and Bank Holiday weekends. The family will always be in residence over Christmas or New Year, alternating each year.

The ideal candidate is energetic and friendly – a real ‘do-er’. A person with efficiency and common sense, willing to roll up their sleeves and work as a team player but also maintain the household impeccably and work as part of a team. Weekends and school holidays make up the majority of the time required for this role but there is plenty of quiet time during school terms, when the family aren’t in residence.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a spotless and well-run household to a high standard, ensuring all areas are clean, organized and cared for.
  • Work as part of a team with additional support staff, including a professional cook and an experienced Butler for around 15 weekends of the year.
  • Adapt to busy periods during the shooting season when up to 16 bedrooms may be occupied and a rota of temporary staff supports the team.
  • Live in a 4-bedroom cottage adjacent to the main house and coordinate with the broader household staff as needed.
  • Be flexible with schedules, particularly on weekends, school holidays and Christmas/New Year periods when the family is in residence.
Qualifications
  • Energetic, friendly, and a proactive self-starter who can roll up sleeves and deliver high-quality housekeeping.
  • Efficient, common-sense approach and strong team orientation.
  • Willingness to work weekends and school holidays; ability to adapt during quieter school terms.
Terms
  • Holiday Entitlement: 33 days annual leave, inclusive of UK Bank and Public Holidays.
  • Pension: Estate Auto Enrolment Scheme, minimum employer contribution of 3%.
  • Start Date: As soon as possible.
  • Contract Type: Full-Time Permanent.
  • Salary: Competitive salary, gross per annum via payroll, plus a 4-bedroom home, with Council Tax, Heating and Electricity bills paid by the Employer.
