Job Summary

The Ward housekeeper will work as an essential part of the ward team under the direction/guidance of the Sister/Charge Nurse or his/her nominated deputy. The focus of the role is to support the nursing team with non-clinical tasks, ensure the cleanliness of the clinical areas of the department is maintained to a very high level and help maintain a safe, clean, comfortable environment for patients.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Being courteous and helpful to patients, families, colleagues and all users and visitors to the ward.
  • Provide refreshments to patients and families where appropriate.
  • Support ward team with underlying tasks to enhance patient care such as collection of laundry, pharmacy, etc.
  • Ensure the bed space is prepared for the arrival of a new admission to the ward – checking the area is clean, rubbish removed, etc.
  • Maintain a safe environment in conjunction with other staff.
  • Report any damaged equipment and required maintenance repairs to estates.
  • Ensure required equipment is available for use and support ward staff in sourcing temporary required equipment if other is unavailable.
  • Ensure store rooms are clean and tidy and equipment/stock is appropriately stored.
