Job description

Within our Emergency Department we have between 200 and 300 patients attending each day. We require a caring, compassionate, friendly and highly motivated Housekeeper to join our team in the Emergency Department. You will possess excellent communication skills, work well as part of a team and have the ability to work in a busy and challenging environment whilst using your own initiative.

The Emergency Department specialises in a wide range of conditions, including Majors, Resuscitation, Minor Illness and Injuries and Initial Assessment.

Responsibilities
  • Clear crockery, etc used outside routine clearing periods.
  • Tidy/clean sluice and linen storage areas as required.
  • Tidy and clean other areas on the ward on a daily or weekly as planned/scheduled.
  • Assist with meals, support patients, staff and relatives as required—ensuring the ward’s protected meal times policy is observed.
  • Support hydration and nutrition rounds.
  • Clean all equipment on the ward.
  • Order stock/supplies and manage storage.
  • Create and maintain effective working relationships with other members of staff.
  • Answer the telephone in a professional manner.
  • Follow Health and Safety policies relevant to the working environment and attend mandatory updates in accordance with Trust policy (e.g., fire procedure and food hygiene).
  • Adhere to Trust policies and procedures.
  • Highlight potential hazards to the Nurse in Charge.
  • Handle appropriate equipment safely, following training/instruction.
  • Decontaminate equipment according to infection control policies.
  • Report faulty equipment to the Estates Department.
  • Work under the direction of the Nurse in Charge with any duties or support requested.

Training & Development
  • Participate in regular supervision.
  • Attend all mandatory training.
  • Participate annually in identifying, developing and agreeing your own development plan with your Line Manager using the Trust Appraisal.
  • Comply with all Trust policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Carry out duties with due regard to the Trust’s Equal Opportunity Policy.
  • Seek advice and support from Line Manager whenever necessary.
  • Maintain professional conduct, including appearance at all times.
