Role – House Manager (Childrens Residential Services)
Location – GCHSCP, Main Street Childrens Residential Unit, 231 Main Street, Bridgeton, Glasgow, G40 1QH
Hours and Shift Pattern – 35 hours per week (see attached work pattern)
Contract Status – Permanent

Are you a compassionate and experienced leader with a passion for making a difference in the lives of children and young people? We are currently recruiting a House Manager to join our dedicated team within Children Residential Services at Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (GCHSCP).

Our service operates across 18 residential houses, each providing a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for children and young people who are unable to live at home.

As a House Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading a team of residential staff to deliver high‑quality care and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strong leadership and management to a team of residential staff.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, nurturing, and trauma‑informed care in line with national standards and best practice.
  • Oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the house, including staffing, budgeting, and compliance.
  • Support the development and implementation of individual care plans tailored to each young person’s needs.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, staff development, and reflective practice.

Applicants must have a proven track record of working/looking after children in a residential child care setting; have the ability to demonstrate good leadership skills; be able to plan and respond effectively to crisis situations; motivate and develop staff; work alongside Health & Social Care Partnership colleagues and other partners to deliver organisational strategic goals and to generate commitment to consistently high standards throughout our residential child care service.

Work Requirements
  • To work at weekends (average per week) up to and including 7 hours total Saturday and/or Sunday, this will be at least one weekend every 4 weeks.
  • To work hours outwith the 6am to 8pm up to 4 hours per week.
  • To work at least one Late shift beyond 8pm per week.
  • To be on standby (on call) – less than 20% of working time.
  • There is a requirement to provide occasional ‘on‑call’ cover on a rota basis in a team of 18 House Managers.

Applicants must either possess a Degree / Diploma in Social Work (or Social Work equivalent) or SVQ4 or the commitment to satisfactorily complete SVQ4. Please refer to the Person Specification for full details of the required qualifications, skills, knowledge and competencies that are required for the above role.

Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is essential on taking up appointment. Please note successful candidates for the above role will be required to pay for their PVG Membership/or Scheme Checks.

Registration to the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) is an essential requirement for this role. You must either be already registered or have applied within 3 months and be registered within 6 months from your start date. Please note as part of the local government pay deal, local authority staff are currently not required to pay SSSC fees.

These roles are excepted under Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exceptions) (Scotland) Order 2013 (as amended).
