Workplace description
This is a charming hotel in an historic venue located in the picturesque town of Wokingham, Berkshire, England. Responsibilities
- Ensure that all guests receive a warm, memorable and personalised welcome to the hotel, setting the scene for their stay and anticipate and action guest requests.
- Maintain high standards of security throughout the night and ensure all public areas are thoroughly cleaned.
- Complete administrative tasks accurately and within given deadlines.
- Set up meeting and private dining rooms to agreed standard and guests' specifications.
- Provide personal and memorable service, anticipate guest needs and follow up on requests.
- Build relationships with guests to encourage repeat visits.
- Communicate effectively with all departments.
- Ensure regular and VIP guests are known and cared for accordingly.
- Handle and communicate comments or complaints; pass on to relevant HODs or Managers if unable to resolve.
- Promote hotel facilities and attractions; assist guests with information, bookings, directions.
- Offer and promote the night menu and drink service (from bar or room service) and ensure timely delivery to guest rooms.
- Ensure all tasks are completed on each shift and a full handover is provided at the end of the shift.
- Handle reservation enquiries and stay aware of current offers.
- Have a thorough knowledge of Opera and any relevant systems.
- Complete the Daily Brief accurately and deliver to all Departments ready for the following morning.
- Secure access to the hotel according to policy; perform related security duties overnight (floor walks, clearing trays, etc.).
- Complete incident reports and distribute to relevant departments.
- Record unusual occurrences or problems, notify the Duty Manager and take appropriate action.
- Work with the Front Office Day team to maintain consistent service 24/7.
- Set up and check meeting rooms according to hotel standards and Function Sheets.
- Maintain cleanliness of guest areas and offices.
- Check in late arrivals and check out early departures according to procedures.
- Make wake‑up calls promptly.
- Ensure the hotel is “show round ready” every morning.
Health and Safety
- Report all potential and real hazards immediately.
- Be fully conversant with all departmental Fire, Emergency and Bomb procedures.
- Attend all fire, health and safety training sessions.
- Apply hotel regulations, laws, statutes and ordinances fairly; report hazards and conditions to the Reception Manager.
- Maintain awareness of Health and Safety in relation to all tasks and activities.
- Re‑use and recycle where possible.
Essential criteria
At least 1 year experience in a Night Porter/Manager role.
Experience with Opera
Preferred; training will be provided for the right candidate.
