The Hospital Palliative Care Team has unique opportunity for a new Band 7 registered nurse to join a high profile team at NUH. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual to work as a Palliative Care Nurse Specialist providing a specialist palliative care service to adult areas throughout Nottingham University Hospitals Trust. The team sees approximately 2000 inpatients a year throughout the trust, delivers education to all members of the multidisciplinary team, has a pivotal role in service development and supporting End of Life initiatives across the trust, as well as having an integral role in supporting the wider specialist palliative care team. You will be expected to demonstrate a significant commitment to the field of palliative care, to be educated to first degree level, and to have a recognised qualification in palliative care or equivalent experience. Teaching experience is essential, as is the evidence of high level communication skills and working in a senior nursing position. Main duties of the job
  • Autonomously lead on and/or provide a specialist palliative care service to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their carers.
  • Provide specialist education and support to all members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).
  • Develop and undertake clinical audit and research relevant to palliative care, actively encompassing change management.
  • Strategic and clinical leadership in the development and delivery of local palliative care services, consistent with national, regional and local strategies.
  • Develop and support excellence in end of life care.

Job responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the specialist palliative care team across NUH and community services to help maintain the quality of life for those requiring specialist palliative care.
  • Offer specialist advice, guidance, and supervision to a caseload of patients and/or their carers with complex symptom control and psycho-social support needs associated with living with a life limiting illness.
  • Lead developments in nursing practice in relation to specialist palliative care, identifying areas for clinical audit and research.
  • Provide clinical leadership by role‑modelling and provision of support, guidance, specialist advice and education to staff of all disciplines, across various care settings.
  • As a member of the HPCT, lead ongoing strategic developments in the management of palliative care services at NUH, consistent with national, regional and local strategies.
  • Develop and maintain close‑working relationships with all statutory and voluntary agencies involved in the care of patients with specialist palliative care needs.
