Job summary

Domus Recruitment is recruiting a Hospital Director for a high-end private neurological rehabilitation service in the UK. The role leads transformation toward CQC registration, shapes future estate development, and drives governance, quality, and patient outcomes across inpatient and outpatient care.

We seek an experienced healthcare executive with a track record in private acute hospitals, capable of balancing patient care with sustainable growth.

Qualifications

• Senior executive leadership experience in a private hospital environment.
• Experience as a CQC Registered Hospital Manager and/or Nominated Individual.
• Experience of registering and/or managing a hospital within a regulated healthcare environment.
• Strong track record leading complex healthcare operations and delivering improvements in quality, safety and performance.
• Experience working with private acute hospital environments; neurological/complex rehabilitation exposure is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for the specialist rehabilitation service.
• Lead the service through its transformation toward CQC hospital registration.
• Ensure high standards of clinical quality, patient safety, governance and regulatory compliance.
• Develop and embed robust quality assurance and outcome measurement frameworks.
• Lead continuous improvement across clinical pathways, operational processes and patient experience.
• Oversee complex neurorehabilitation pathways including spinal care and tracheostomy services.
• Build relationships with clinicians, commissioners, insurers, case managers and other stakeholders.
• Grow the private inpatient and outpatient proposition and strengthen referral pathways.

Job description

An exceptional leadership opportunity has arisen for an experienced private hospital leader to take a key role in the transformation and development of an established specialist neurological rehabilitation service. This is a significant opportunity for an experienced healthcare leader to take an existing service on an ambitious transformation journey, helping to shape its future as a luxury registered hospital while also playing a pivotal role in the design and development of an exciting new purpose-built extension. The service provides specialist complex neurorehabilitation, including specialist spinal care, alongside inpatient and outpatient services. The vision is to strengthen governance, develop clinical pathways, expand the private healthcare offering and progress towards hospital registration with the CQC. As part of this journey, the successful candidate will transition from Service Director to Hospital Director while in role.

Key Responsibilities of a Hospital Director:

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for the specialist rehabilitation service.
• Lead the service through its transformation and development journey towards CQC hospital registration.
• Ensure high standards of clinical quality, patient safety, governance and regulatory compliance.
• Develop and embed robust quality assurance and outcome measurement frameworks.
• Lead continuous improvement across clinical pathways, operational processes and patient experience.
• Oversee complex neurorehabilitation pathways, including specialist spinal care and tracheostomy services.
• Build strong relationships with clinicians, commissioners, ICBs, insurers, case managers, solicitors and other key stakeholders.
• Develop and grow the private inpatient and outpatient proposition.
• Strengthen referral pathways and build new commercial and professional relationships.
• Lead, inspire and develop a highly skilled multidisciplinary team.
• Work collaboratively with clinical and business leadership to create a culture of accountability, innovation and excellence.
• Help shape the future estate strategy, including the design and development of a proposed purpose-built extension.
• Ensure the physical environment supports modern rehabilitation, patient independence and an outstanding patient experience.
• Champion innovation, digital technology and assistive technology to improve patient outcomes.
• Create a culture where people are proud to work, patients feel empowered and excellence is the expectation.

Key requirements of a Hospital Director:

• Senior executive leadership experience within a private hospital environment.
• Experience as a CQC Registered Hospital Manager and/or Nominated Individual.
• Experience of registering and/or managing a hospital within a regulated healthcare environment.
• Strong track record of leading complex healthcare operations and delivering improvements in quality, safety and performance.
• Experience of working within, or leading towards, CQC registration or significant regulatory change.
• Strong understanding of clinical governance, quality assurance, risk management and patient safety.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams within complex healthcare environments.
• Experience developing and growing private healthcare services.
• Experience building relationships with insurers, case managers, solicitors and other referrers.
• Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to balance patient outcomes with sustainable service growth.
• Experience working collaboratively with estates, capital development and other stakeholders to improve or develop healthcare environments.
• Strong leadership presence and the ability to inspire clinicians, operational teams and external stakeholders around a shared ambition.
• Experience within private acute hospital environments is essential.
• Experience within neurological or complex rehabilitation services would be highly beneficial.
