Job description

Horticultural Team Leader - Breeding & Trials Albrighton, Shropshire | Full-time | Competitive Salary + Great Benefits

Do you have a passion for plants, a sharp eye for detail, and the drive to lead a team that helps create something truly beautiful?

We're working with one of the UK's most iconic horticultural brands, a family-run grower and breeder recognised around the world for producing some of the most admired flowers on earth. From their stunning Shropshire site, they combine decades of craftsmanship with cutting‑edge breeding innovation to create something special. And now, they're looking for a Horticultural Team Leader to help take their breeding programme to new heights.

About the Role

As Horticultural Team Leader, you'll be right at the heart of the breeding operation, leading a talented and passionate team responsible for nurturing, evaluating, and developing new plant varieties.

This is a hands‑on, outdoors (and sometimes glasshouse) role where no two days are the same. One day you could be planning cross‑pollinations and seed germination, the next you'll be out in the fields assessing trials or guiding your team through key plant care operations.

You’ll:

  • Coordinate daily work schedules and keep everything running smoothly
  • Lead and motivate your team, providing training, support, and guidance
  • Get stuck in with the breeding process - from pollination and propagation to pruning and trial assessments
  • Keep accurate records of breeding data, progress, and plant performance
  • Maintain top standards for health, safety, and biosecurity
  • Work closely with the Breeding Operations Manager to plan and prioritise workloads
Who We're Looking For

You’ll thrive here if you:

  • Have a horticultural qualification (RHS Level 2 or above) or solid hands‑on nursery/growing experience
  • Are confident leading small teams in a practical, outdoor environment
  • Understand plant propagation, pest and disease management, and greenhouse operations
  • Are organised, adaptable, and happy to get involved in everything from data collection to fieldwork
  • Have an eye for detail and take real pride in your work
  • Hold (or are willing to gain) PA1/PA6 spraying certificates and a full UK driving licence
Why You’ll Love It
  • Be part of a company known worldwide for its horticultural excellence
  • Work in a beautiful countryside setting surrounded by people who genuinely love what they do
  • Join a friendly, supportive team with a family feel
  • Great opportunities for learning, development and career growth
  • Competitive pay and benefits

What’s In It For You

  • Annual profit‑related bonus scheme
  • Long Service Awards
  • Employee Assistance Programme (24/7 support, counselling, advice etc)
  • Electric car charging points
  • Free parking
  • Free drinks & snacks
  • Social events throughout the year
  • Staff discount
  • 25 days of annual leave rising after 5 years of service
  • All earnings and employer contributions to the pension scheme
  • Life event gifts (weddings & babies)
  • Eye care scheme (free eye tests & money towards glasses for VDU users)

If you're the kind of person who finds joy in growing, experimenting, and leading others to do their best work - this is your chance to be part of something blooming special.
